Looking Back with Gratitude and Gratefulness...

B.E.E. Society & National Honors Society Join Forces to Provide Warmth for LA Fire Victims on Skid Row

March 2025

In partnership with the National Honor Society, we organized a blanket and socks drive to support those affected by the LA fires at Skid Row. Through the generosity of our community, we collected over 300 pairs of socks and 100 blankets, all of which were donated to Audacity of Hope.

Audacity of Hope, dedicated to serving those in need, distributed these essential items to individuals facing hardship in the aftermath of the fires. It was a powerful reminder that even small acts of kindness—like providing warmth through a blanket or a fresh pair of socks—can bring comfort and hope to those struggling.

This experience reinforced the importance of coming together to support our community. Through collaboration, compassion, and action, we were able to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.

High School Students Explore STEM as B.E.E. Society Hosts UCI Researchers

February 2025

In partnership with the University of California, Irvine Cancer Research Institute, we are excited to promote an incredible opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the world of cancer research. UCI offers an internship designed to encourage learning, discovery, and networking, providing high school students with hands-on experience in STEM and research.

To highlight the importance of cancer research and the opportunities available, we invited Aulton Kohn Jr., UCI's Cancer Research Institute Strategic Operations Manager, to speak about the critical role of research in advancing treatments and saving lives. He also introduced the Youth Science Fellowship Program, which allows high school students to explore research in a professional setting, gaining invaluable experience that could shape their future in science and medicine.

By sharing these opportunities, we hope to inspire students to engage with research, develop their scientific curiosity, and consider how they might contribute to the field in the future.

The goal was to bring the stories to life through the art of storytelling, making Bible lessons accessible and enjoyable for the kids. It was a rewarding experience to see their faces light up as they connected with the message in such a creative, memorable way.

Sweet Feet Project in Skid Row

February 2024

In a heartfelt endeavor to bring comfort and warmth to those on Skid Row, we embarked on a mission to collect and fold freshly new pairs of socks into the resemblance of a cupcake. Recognizing the critical need for clean socks among the homeless community, we happily folded over 200 pairs of socks. These simple yet essential items can often be taken for granted, but for those living on the streets, they provide not just warmth, but a sense of dignity and well-being. As we distributed these sock cupcakes on Skid Row, we witnessed firsthand faces lit with gratitude as individuals received a fresh pair of socks, knowing that they would be able to keep warm and maintain a basic level of comfort in the midst of challenging circumstances. Together, we will continue to fold warmth and spread hope to our neighbors on Skid Row.

Masked with Love: Local Effort Yields 250 Masks for Churches and Hospitals

Green Thumbs: Community Garden Provides Food and Eggs for Families in Need

February 2020

Our project, "Green Thumbs," started from the ground up—literally. In April 2017, we transformed an empty plot of land into a thriving garden and built a chicken coop, with the goal of providing fresh, organic produce and eggs to those in need. As the COVID-19 pandemic created unprecedented challenges, many families found themselves struggling to access basic necessities. Recognizing this need, we decided to use our green thumbs to make a difference. With dedication and teamwork, we planted a variety of vegetables, fruits, and herbs, ensuring a diverse and nutritious harvest. Simultaneously, we constructed a sturdy chicken coop, home to happy hens that would supply fresh, organic eggs. Our garden became a sanctuary of growth and giving. Throughout the year, we nurtured the plants and cared for the chickens, watching our efforts bear fruit—literally and figuratively. The bountiful harvest and steady supply of eggs were a testament to the power of community and the impact of collective effort. We opened our garden gates to our neighbors, inviting them to come and take what they needed, free of charge. Families could pick fresh vegetables, herbs, and fruits, and collect organic eggs straight from the coop. The garden became a lifeline, providing essential nourishment and a sense of security during a time of great uncertainty. Every seed planted, every egg collected, and every vegetable harvested was a step towards a stronger, more caring community.

Through this artistic journey, we also created handmade watercolor cards, which were donated to local hospitals for children in hospital beds. These cards were designed to bring comfort and joy to young patients, letting them know that they are loved and cared for. It was an incredibly rewarding experience to use art as a way to spread positivity and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children facing health challenges.
